things to do on weekends #16

The christmas season begins for Jasmine

I've got a confession to make. Despite living in Canberra my whole life I've never been to the Christmas Barn in Bredbo. Heck, until about a week ago I didn't even know it existed!

That was all until this afternoon. Some friends and I gathered in the car, chucked the glee soundtracks on (this has become somewhat of a tradition for my friends and I. Group singalongs are mandatory), and headed down the Monaro Highway to the barn.

My friends had warned me of what to expect, and I really thought I was prepared. Sure, there would some christmas trees, decorations, and plenty of tinsel. Woah, that was just the beginning!!!

Your first clue into the craziness of the Christmas Barn comes when shopping baskets are offered out the front of the store. That is how much stuff people buy here - they can't even carry it all without the help of a basket. And then, stepping in the door I saw it all. Every kind of christmas decoration you can imagine (and plenty you never wanted to) are there. Like this princess giraffe...

...in case you can't quite make it out, this little baby is retailing for $99.95, reduced from $225. Bargain!!

This princess giraffe is only the beginning of what you can see at the barn. Thankfully aside from the more *ahem* unusual items such as above, you can definitely find some more traditional or modern christmas decorations. There is certainly something to suit everyone's taste.

...And speaking of taste, don't forget to give your tastebuds a little boost before the drive home by popping next door to the barn at the Pancake House! I recommend the Peach Melba crepes. Delicious!

So pack your friends in the car for an entertaining afternoon in Bredbo as soon as you can (best to get in early and avoid the crowds - it's only going to get busier the closer it gets to christmas!) and have a giggle at the weird and wonderful Christmas Barn.

To help you get in the mood, here is my favourite track from the Glee christmas album - a duet between Kurt and Blaine - absolutely gorgeous!!

Merry Christmas!
