Lily's thoughts on speed dating – seriously, just like the movies
I’ve been single a while now, so when an opportunity to go speed dating disguised as a charity event presented itself – I went along, taking a few girlfriends with me of course.
Naturally, I had some preconceptions about such an event. Most of these were negative, derived from a plethora of movies and TV shows poking fun at those desperate and dateless individuals moving around tables in a seedy bar. Think Sex and the City or 40-Year-Old Virgin.
The reality wasn’t too far from that. What had I gotten myself into?
I really tried to remain positive – so with an open mind and some liquid courage the ‘dating’ began.
Date #1 – refuses, point blank, to tell me his name! I was off to a really great start
Date #4 – Upon seating himself at my table tells me ‘your body language sucks’. Gee, and you’re a real prize pig too.
Date #6 – never actually sits at my table, he wanders past numerous times to go to other tables. Either I’m way too intimidating to him (must be my body language) or he’s taken one look and gone ‘hell no’.
Ok, it really wasn’t all bad. We were provided with what felt like unlimited champagne cocktails and I did meet a couple of nice guys. I even got a ‘match’. Never heard from him though. I guess speed dating, whilst an excellent source of entertainment, isn’t a great place to meet men.
>>>Now it is over to you... email us your suggestions for places to go and things to do. We’ll get on the 'horse' and do some of them and give you a run down on it based on where not to meet men.
